Clean the World

Suddenly, handwashing has become top of mind for all of us. Thanks to our resourceful team member, we’re now sharing lifesaving hygiene supplies with people in need. Pratt Place Inn is now a partner with Clean the World, who recycles all leftover guestroom soaps to be distributed to people around the world. Darla Jones, housekeeper at Pratt Place, spearheaded the partnership.

“I started doing some research on in-room dispensers versus plastic throw aways because of the awful amount of waste. I started looking for ways to recycle the unused soaps and came across Clean the World,” she said. “I love that they took a serious problem and turned it into a lifesaving solution.”

According to Clean the World, more than 2.3 billion people worldwide lack access to basic sanitation, and the leading cause of death for children under age five is hygiene-related illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia. Proper handwashing can reduce child deaths by 50% or more.

Clean the World collects leftover soaps and containers from hotels and reprocesses them into soap and hygiene packs that are distributed to people around the world, including refugees and victims of disasters, saving lives while reducing waste. In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, access to soap is more important than ever. Thanks to Clean the World and Darla, we’re glad to pitch in to help.

Darla Jones, Pratt Place Inn Housekeeper, loads leftover soaps for shipping to Clean the World, where they will be processed into hygiene kits for people in need.
